4 Design Trends for 2023
Overwhelmed by Instagram design Ideas? OWC Design Team is your guide to Timeless Design
by Andrew February 13, 2023There are no shortage of design ideas on social media! It can be overwhelming to sift through all the great ideas. And more importantly most people don't live in an Instagram ready house, so how do you know which Design Trends to incorporate in your actual Forever Home? Don't worry the Old World Design Team has identified the 4 Top Design Trends influencing our Client's Forever Homes for 2023 and years beyond.
1. Dark Exteriors
Dark exterior elements like black windows and Architectural Accents have been influencing design for several years, however the desire to have the an entire black exterior of a home is a trend we love. The boldness of Dark Color gives a striking contrast and modern aesthetic to simple forms & traditional architectural styles. Mixing in stained Wood Timbers for porch posts and window headers adds the perfect touch of warmth.
2. Wallpaper
This is not your Mom's 1990's Floral Wallpaper. Bold patterns and Luxurious textures create a focal point in a room, add a touch of personality to an otherwise neutral space, or create a dramatic statement in a room. We often see wallpaper used to bring excitement to otherwise boring spaces like Powder Rooms and Pantry's. One of the trends we saw emerge from Pandemic was creating "away" spaces that allow you time to unwind from day or escape from the open floor plan. We love using wallpaper in these away lounges to add a bit of whimsy that gives the mind the subtle hint it is ok to take a break from the world for a minute.
3. Stained Wood Cabinets
Wait we just got rid of the golden oak cabinets from our parents house and now you are telling me it is coming back? Oak is actually a beautiful wood when done right. We especially love White Oak in a natural oil finish. Pairing the richness and warmth of the wood grain with simple cabinet styles creates a modern aesthetic without the coldness that comes from stark light colored cabinets.
4. Art Deco Influences in Modern Homes
If you haven't noticed modern has been a theme throughout our design trends and it doesn't stop with our last trend of Art Deco. Usually when you think of modern design square shapes and straight lines are what come to mind. Combining Art Deco elements like full round archways, reeded paneling, and gold accents with modern design give the warmth to new homes that people crave. Art deco influences can be found in a variety of elements in a modern home, from lighting fixtures and hardware to furniture and wallcoverings.
"Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off." - Coco Chanel.
We love that quote, especially today when everyone is overwhelmed with great design ideas at their fingertips through Instagram and Pinterest. It is easy to try to shove too many great design ideas into a home. We feel it is essential to have a designer on your team when building a new home so they guide you through the process of editing your design to create the Timeless Forever home you desire. The OWC Design Team looks forward to collaborating with you on your home in 2023!
